Situations that may involve mental illness require professional, qualified diagnoses. The BMS Project does not perform mental illness diagnoses, nor provide crisis intervention services. We strive to provide referrals to mental health professionals and service providers who can provide diagnoses and subsequent treatment services – including counseling.

As a first-step to identifying which doctors and medical facilities will accept your insurance, you’ll find below a listing of regional Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BC/BS) carriers. 

Notes: 

• We suggest that you contact the number on the back of your insurance card to confirm the BC/BS carrier for which your insurance is associated. Do not assume that because you live in Kansas City that you have Blue KC (e.g., In Kansas City, St. Luke’s employees are covered by BC/BS Michigan).
• Mental Health & Substance Abuse Precertification is a separate contact number and can be found on the back of your insurance card.

Those with no insurance or who have Medicaid: Contact your local Community Mental Health Center who can provide counseling, medication services, substance abuse services and case management services.
