STEP ONE: PHYSICAL,
SAFETY & WELL-BEING
The BMS Project’s mission is to assist sports Advocates (Parents, Coaches, Mentors, Officials & School Counselors) to create positive, safe competitive environments and experiences. We also promote mental health awareness and contribute to suicide prevention. While our emphasis is on mental health and suicide prevention, — as provided under the “MIND” dropdown — in this “BODY” section we address physical and Safety & Well-Being topics and resources.
There is no one right way to assist those in need, as they navigate the challenges and stresses of life and competition, but the guiding principle of encouraging younger and older athletes to share how they really feel and to temper competitive motives with the priority of guarding the overall safety and well-being of individual athletes provides the cornerstone of all of our collective efforts. We highly endorse healthy, positive competition with the caveat that each individual knows how they really feel – be sure to ask them how they feel.
In Step Two below you will find links to Tip Sheets, Self-Help Topic Articles, First Aid suggestions, as well as appropriate, lyric reviewed and approved up-tempo music to use during repetitive skill drills. The topic articles deal with a range of physical related topics including, but not limited to common injuries and the importance of recovery time, downtime and pre-competition conditioning.
The BMS Project’s primary mission is to assist youth sports Advocates (Parents, Coaches, Mentors, Officials & School Counselors) to create positive, safe competitive environments and experiences. In support of our primary mission we also promote mental health awareness and contribute to suicide prevention.
There is no one right way to assist young people, as they navigate the challenges and stresses of life and competition, but the guiding principle of encouraging young people to share how they really feel and to temper competitive motives with the priority of guarding the overall well-being of the individual youngster provides the cornerstone of all of our collective efforts. We highly endorse healthy, positive competition with the caveat that only our children know how they really feel – be sure to ask them how they feel.
