OVERVIEW
theBMSproject was founded in 2022 subsequent to the onset of the Covid pandemic. It initially was formed to contribute to mental health awareness and suicide prevention for teens. In 2023, theBMSproject’s scope of activity was broadened to include the safety and well-being of athletes of all ages and their families. In 2024 a program was introduced for early adolescents; to foster positive adult behavior supportive to young athletes, officials and opponents. In 2026 and beyond we anticipate introducing a children’s literacy, safety and well-being program; as well as introducing a resource directory for handicapped and disabled athletes and a program encouraging civility and respect toward officials.
theBMSproject strives to contribute to the safety, good health and well-being of athletes has nurtured relationships with other national youth sports organizations that are committed to contribute to the many positive aspects of youth sports participation and physical activities. We utilize what we refer to as a “concierge-like” approach to providing our suggestions and introductory, orientation, topic articles, tips sheets and videos to assist youth sports advocates to create and maintain positive, competitive environments and experiences.
Our main menu dropdown is organized into “Body”/physical, “Mind”/mental and “Spirit”/metaphysical categories. Visitors can access our various resources by using the main menu dropdowns, or the various program icons provided on the homepage of our website. We endeavor to first provide general orientation information in order to first acquaint visitors with a general familiarity with the subject matter that they are interested in. We then provide a limited number of next step suggestions to continue their quest to address their individual interests. Included as part of many of our resources, we provide safety and well-being messaging that address a number of high risk incidents such as: Ideations of self-harm, sexual misconduct, child abuse, bullying/hazing, substance abuse/addictions and threats of violence.
We do not contend that the suggestions and resources offered herein are the best or only options available. However, we do represent that our resources and suggestions offer simple, good starting points for visitors to address unprecedented challenges that they might face; as well as to assist youth sports advocates to contribute to the joy of sports participation.
