PILLAR II. "PLEDGE" & "GUEST REQUEST"
The team Pledge is designed to be used during early-season team meetings with all of the athletes and adults associated with the team present. The adults participants includes coaches, parents/guardians and/or grandparents (if involved with the team). It is VERY IMPORTANT that all meeting participants review and sign the Pledge at the same time. Please download and make sufficient number of copies (front & back); so that both signees and the team manager can retain record copies of the signed Pledges.
The Guest Request is provided to be utilized to commit adults that are associated with the team that missed the team meeting to the same high standard of conduct as the team meeting signees. It is suggested that the Guest Request be distributed and utilized at early-season practices and games.
The front of the Pledge includes group topics that can be discussed during the team meeting. There is also important safety and well-being messaging included on the top and bottom of the front of the Pledge sheet. The group signing of the Pledge serves as a “giving witness” ritual that provides a powerful psychological, motivating role to ensure the commitment of all signees to abide by their pledges. The use of the Pledge and Guest Request is intended to protect our young athletes and officials from abusive adult misconduct. The goal is to retain young athletes participation in youth sports; as well as to ensure that officials are not driven from youth sports. Let’s not permit a few misbehaving adults ruin the good aspects of youth sports participation for everyone.
