The BMS Project

OVERVIEW

As parents, guardians or grandparents, someday in the future your children may become involved in youth sports.  The BMS project programs have been created and are provided with the belief that participation in youth sports can contribute to our children to grow and become healthy adults.  However, there are also many other activities that your children may become involved with that likewise can contribute to a healthy future for your child.  In Tim’s message he suggests that youth sports participation represents a time to let go of the parental reins somewhat.  We never advocate that you completely surrender oversight of the safety and well-being of your children.

That said, when the time comes that your child begins to participate in competitive activities it becomes a stressful time for parents/guardians and/or grandparents.  We all want to protect our children and see them excel in whatever activities that they become involved with in the future.  Unfortunately, some adults try to live vicariously through their children’s involvement in youth sports.  THE KIDS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN.  Overzealous parents and adults can take the fun out of the game making it unpleasant for their own children as well as other children, officials and the coaches.

In our society, we are experiencing a crisis in youth sports today.  Many children abandon sports participation, because of stresses and pressures that they put on themselves and/or that adults excert upon them.  Likewise, youth sports organizations are having a very difficult time recruiting and retaining coaches and officials.

In Tim’s message, he indicates that he has umpired for many years and that adult behavior plays the most significant contributing factor in the problems cited above.  theBMSproject’s programs are provided to set the bar and encourage positive, supportive adult behavior in youth sports.
