INSIDE OUT COACHING

In his book, “Inside Out Coaching,” Joe Ehrmann talks about the positive aspects of transformative coaching and humanistic interaction with athletes.  Mr. Ehrmann first addresses the importance of a coach conducting personal assessment of his or her own coaching philosophy.  His contention is that the development and preparation of a young person to become a responsible adult.  He further contends that sports have evolved to become a secular religion.  Conversely, Mr. Ehrmann describes that sports should and can be a life-changing, spiritual experience.  He views the traditional authoritarian coaching approach to often be destructive and damaging to athletes.  His suggested approach is to treat athletes as people and to conduct sports as uplifting and self-esteem building.
