INTRODUCTION TO SERVICES
Self-Help Services are provided “By Topic” and “Stages of Maturity.”
Regarding professional Mental Health Services we provide both “National” and “Local/Regional” recommendations for your use. You can pursue “Self-Help” and “Professional Help” resources individually, or at the same time.
Additionally, we are providing “Questions to Ask” to use when evaluating therapists/counselors that you may wish to consider utilizing.
Regarding utilizing mental health facility services, there are a couple of very basic issues that should be evaluated/considered. Those basis issues are: 1) Accessibility and 2) How to pay for services received. In this Step Two Introduction, we provide a cursory primer on what factors may become involved.
There are two basic types of mental health service providers: 1) There are the one-on-one providers: a) therapists/counselors and Psychologists (with degreed psychology expertise)and b) Psychiatrists (degreed medical doctors specializing in mental health) and what we will refer to as 2) Facilities. Of course, facilities have therapists/counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists on staff. As a prospective patient wishing to receive care from a facility, you might already be under the care of a personal therapist or psychiatrist, but they may or may not have visiting rights to the facility to which you are admitted. These are all considerations that may affect a person’s efforts to secure mental health care attention.
