FRANCIS A. MARTIN, Ph.D

ABOUT:    For approximately forty years, Francis A. Martin has been a mental health care provider, through clinical work, research and publishing, teaching, and leadership.  Expressing his commitment to service, Dr. Martin has conducted counseling and psychotherapy in private practice, hospitals, universities, and agencies.  He has provided clinical supervision for numerous individuals who pursued their degrees and, later, their licenses. His commitment to clinical supervision appears in his book, Clinical Supervision in the Real World: A Practical Guide to Ethics, Legal Issues, and Personal Development  (Routledge, 2020), co-authored with Janet Turner, Ph.D.

He has served as a professor in seven universities, with current teaching responsibilities at Lipscomb University, Nashville, Tennessee.  As a researcher and author, he has published many articles and books including another recent book, Therapy Thieves: How To Save Mental Health Care from Its Providers (Oxford University Press, 2020).  He has served as an official in several professional organizations.  Currently, he directs The Center for Clinical Training (TCCT), an organization dedicated to the improvement of mental health care services through delivering excellent professional development resources, including training events and publications.
