NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

A think tank that is exploring existing and new ideas, programs and organizations involved with contributing to the safety and well-being of sports participation. Project Play is an important national initiative of the Aspen Institute. Launched in 2013 by the Sports & Society Program of the Aspen Institute, the award-winning initiative convenes leaders, identifies gaps in access to quality sport activity, and mobilizes organizations for action to create positive, safe environments for youth sports participation.

Headquartered on the East Coast. The Jed Foundation (JED) is a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults, giving them the skills and support they need to thrive today…and tomorrow.

Authorized by Congress to help abuse prevention, education, and accountability take root in every sport, on every court and field. Dedicated to ending sexual, physical, and emotional abuse on behalf of athletes everywhere. A downloadable app was recently made available. (LINK)

Headquartered in the West Coast. PCA is committed to creating positive healthy youth sports alliances by working with school systems and youth organizations to reach into communities with their programs. Their efforts help coaches to create and maintain positive youth sports environments. 

NCC promotes and educates coaches on the use of transformative versus transactional coaching styles/techniques. This begins with the coach doing an inward appraisal and commitment to develop the whole person of their athletes and then consistently projecting that purpose. It is applied and utilized as coaches’ primary precept of why they are coaching – for the good of their athletes. Treating their athletes as people, not a means to an end.
