Now, expectations might be ratcheting up and that brings a whole new set of stresses, worries and fears.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Fears of disappointing others or yourself.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The challenge of conquering self doubt.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Overcoming injuries.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Things can get REALLY heavy at this stage of life. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">Our mission is promote mental health awareness and contribute to suicide prevention (that\u2019s getting really heavy) among young athletes and competitors.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We do so by working with a host of youth sports\/youth competitions supporter and advocates.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"s1\">But the singular most important person in the accomplishment of<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>our mission is still <b>YOU<\/b><\/span>. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">You may now have a job.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You may be driving.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You may have a first, life sharing partner. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0While your<\/span>\u00a0driver\u2019s license \u2013 or i.d. \u2013 says you are still legally a minor, you are picking-up momentum to become a full fledged, card caring, legal adult. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You may have gone a little nuts along the way and\/or you may have it totally together.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In either case, you are still you and that is good enough for us and needs to be good enough for you too \u2026in fact, ideally, better than good enough.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Can we talk about this?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you\u2019ve backed off sports\/competition, that might be okay and cool \u2013 if done for the right reasons.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Our mantra is &#8211; only you know how you feel.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We encourage you to talk about things that are bothering you with trusted confidants, but as with most things with life, that is a personal choice. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">Hopefully, the lessons you learned along the way from participation in sports and competition will assist you in the happy pursuit of your life as it exists today.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The values, morals, discipline and standards associated with participating in sports and competition can often be applied to life. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\">Now, let\u2019s talk about chasing your dreams \u2026being all that you think you can and want to be through your involvement with sports\/competitive activities.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The word \u201ccompetition\u201d conveys meaning \u2026meaning that others want the same things that you want.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It implies that they are intent upon imposing their will over yours.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s called, \u201cconflict.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Conflict can be good spirited (referred to as good sportsmanship), or it can be mean spirited (to the victor goes the spoils).<\/p><p class=\"p1\">To compete and win, usually requires that you believe and are confident that you are better and can prevail over your opponent(s).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Some sports involve individual competition and team sports involve group\/tribal competition.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There are usually personal and team goals and hierarchies\/levels of competition involved.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>At each level, there are increasing demands placed upon participants.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">As an older teen, you and your family have likely become somewhat aware of the hurdles and requirements that you will face as you attempt to advance up the hierarchy of competitive achievement \u2013 from amateur, collegiate (whatever that is now) up to professional. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Injuries, grades, or other stuff, on into ad infinitum, can be contributing factors to whether you are able to accomplish your future goals.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Can we be honest here? You and your family may have grave misperceptions of what it requires to pursue and accomplish your future athletic\/competitive aspirations.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 Plus, y<\/span>our final destination may not be what you think it is \u2026the cost to get there may be too steep \u2026you may unfairly and unjustly denied the opportunities that you long for.
