STEP TWO: EARLY TEENS (13-15)<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Now, the time of great confusion \u2013 puberty!  <\/span>The transition begins in earnest \u2013 from kid to not so much kiddish anymore.  <\/span>Here\u2019s part of the deal, those physical, emotionally and intellectual thingy a miggies are firin\u2019 up big time now.  <\/span>Oh, yeah, game on!  <\/span><\/p>\n

Boys and girls are different and you\/they start noticing it:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

HEY, RIGHT NOW \u2013 LISTEN!<\/b><\/p>

ONE IS NOT BETTER THAN <\/b>THE OTHER \u2026GET IT \u2026AND GET IT RIGHT!<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Different cultures and individual families have different views regarding gender identity.<\/span>  <\/span>It is not our role to moralize on these matters, but we will maintain that you are who you are and those beliefs can be either supportive or dissuasive regarding gender identity.<\/span>  <\/span>You will be faced with new challenges during your early teen years.<\/span>  <\/span>Choose your advisors wisely. Your parents were young once too. It may seem awkward, but they can help too if you will listen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peer judgment become exceedingly important regarding how you see and judge yourself.  <\/span>This may contribute to conflicts with your parents and\/or it might be a journey that you are able to navigate relatively peacefully together.   <\/span>Please try to remember \u2013 and it can be hard \u2013 your parents\u2019 role is to provide guidance and discipline \u2013 and try to protect you from the unscrupulous influences that may or may not be acting in your best interest.  <\/span>Again, internal family dynamics are personal and beyond our scope of involvement.       <\/span><\/p>\n

As far as sports and competition \u2013 you still cannot drive and you may or may not have a job.  <\/span>Accordingly, you still need a supportive champion in your life getting you to and from practices and games\/competitive events.  <\/span>Also, you are yet facing really significant conflicting distractions. dating, working and other interests not related to sports\u2019\/competitive activities.   <\/span><\/p>\n

Your body has grown and strengthened \u2013 if you\u2019ve been participating in competitive activities, you are are probably a lot better at them skill wise and you know more about how to play them better too.  <\/span>In fact, you may be faced with an important cross roads as a competitors \u2013 do you treat your participation as a socially enjoyable life experiences or do you hunker down and try to become an advanced, elite competitor.  <\/span>Have we said it before?  <\/span>ONLY YOU KNOW HOW YOU FEEL.<\/b><\/p>\n

There are innumerable reasons why both males and females go one way or another at their own, personal cross road.  <\/span>Is it a lifelong decision?  <\/span>Possibly \u2013 but, more than likely, you can step-off the path you chose later too.  <\/span>Sometimes the opportunity just isn\u2019t there and\/or you change your mind.<\/p>\n

Since our scope is with mental\/behavioral health and the avoidance of self-harm; let us just say this\u2026<\/p>\n

BREATHE DEEP. <\/span><\/b> There may be good reasons to get serious or not to get serious about competition.  <\/span>If you are too hard on yourself (a perfectionist) and\/or you are pursuing sports\/competition for the wrong reasons (for others), the associated stresses can contribute to great life dissatisfaction and unhappiness.  <\/span><\/p>\n

DON\u2019T GO THERE<\/b> \u2013 Talk and share your feeling with trusted confidants and advisors that are vested in your well being.  <\/span>You may feel isolated and alone \u2013 hormones can contribute to these false feelings \u2013 but you are not alone.  <\/span>Please believe this.  <\/span>If you decide to pursue advanced\/elite competition for the right reasons, then go for it, but remain cognizant that pursuit invites the possibility of failure \u2013 often, from external, unfair, uncontrollable factors.   <\/span>Hey, you were just a kid yesterday \u2026keep it light, don\u2019t get heavy yet \u2026that comes later.  <\/span>Talk, maintain your self esteem \u2013 you are you and that is special!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
